Installing the Host Agent on Google Compute Engine (GCE)

TABLE OF CONTENTS

Linux

  1. Sign in to Instana, click More -> Agents -> Instana agent installation -> Linux.
  2. From the Technology list, select Google Compute Engine (GCE).

    Your agent key and location are pre-populated in the one-liner command.

  3. Copy and run the following command as Startup Script for the GCE instance:

    #!/bin/bash

    curl -o setup_agent.sh https://setup.instana.io/agent && chmod 700 ./setup_agent.sh && sudo apt-get install apt-transport-https ca-certificates && sudo ./setup_agent.sh -a ${INSTANA_AGENT_KEY} -t dynamic -l eu -s -y && sudo apt-get purge -y apt-transport-https ca-certificates

The script above is based on the agent one-liner script for Linux, and it can be easily modified to accommodate a number of additional parameters as described in the Additional One-Liner parameters documentation.

For more information on how to use startup scripts in GCE, see the Google docs.
